Virgin TV XL

Virgin TiVo Box

TV XL is the largest of the 3 TV packages offered by Virgin Media and gives you over 175 channels, from all the basics up to subscription channels like ESPN, the Discovery and National Geographic channels and lots more. Like all Virgin TV packages it includes access to BBC iPlayer and the other major catch-up services and also gives you TV Choice XL, the Virgin on-demand library of popular TV.

You can take XL with a choice of 3 different boxes. Most people wanting the top package will also want a great TV box so will probably opt for the TiVo box with either 500GB or 1 Terabyte of memory – TiVo is a more advanced version of V+ which let’s you search and browse TV content from your package and from the web, also letting you scroll back through the last 7 days of catch-up TV. XL with a TiVo box costs £27.50 a month plus a Virgin phone line for £13.90 a month, set-up and activation are free for the 500GB model and £49.95 for the 1TB box. You can also take XL with the basic V HD box for £24.50 a month plus line rental – this is HD and 3D ready but doesn’t record, pause and rewind. If you want the package without a Virgin phone line the monthly cost is £30.50.

More About Virgin TiVo

TiVo has been around in the USA for some time and was launched on Virgin Media in the UK in late 2010. It's like Sky+ and V+ but more advanced, integrating more with the web by including YouTube results in a search alongside live, catch-up and on-demand TV and making catch-up TV easier to find by having an EPG that you can scroll back through over the previous 7 days. When you do this you can see any content available on catch-up has a symbol next to it.

The TiVo boxes have a 10Mb broadband connection built-in too so any use of the web - you can also use Facebook, eBay and other web apps on it - doesn't slow down the regular connection.
